Hat is worked in the round from the middle of the crown down towards the brim. This hat can be worked off of both end of a center feeding ball of the proper yardage, which is particularly lovely with very long variegations. I used one weenskein dyed in this manner for the example images in this pattern.

Crown/Spiral Rounds 1-9

Create a single XL sl st this will serve as your foundation loop and will be worked off loosely so this first round, you can tighten it and tie thee two color ends together. It may be helpful to use stitch markers to indicate the midpoint of each round where the increase begins. The spiral is worked congruently and 2-stitch increases will occur on top of each other in each subsequent round, with the number of stitches between increasing by 1 stitch in each round.
